Our Values
The values of a church shape what it does and who it is. Although a non-traditional church in terms of style, CenterPoint Church is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. While we realize we can’t tell you everything we believe in a few paragraphs, these are our core beliefs, the CenterPoints that guide all we are and do. You can also listen to our message series called I Love It Here to hear more about what these values mean to us. Click here to listen.
Following God’s Leadership
We believe all that CenterPoint does must be pursued through continuous prayer and be guided and empowered by God’s Spirit.
Honoring Biblical Truth
We believe that the Bible is totally trustworthy and true, it’s teaching the catalyst for life-change in individual’s lives and in the church. The Bible presents a dangerous message of life change and wasn’t given to us merely to inform us, or to provide arguments for a particular belief or position but to change us. We don’t assume everyone believes, or even knows the Bible, but we do assume everyone who comes through our doors is open to exploring it.
Sharing Christ with Others
The greatest gift we can give another human being is what God has extended to us in unlimited measure, His Love. People come to Christ and to church because of the consistent encouragement of a trusted friend. The life of a Christ-follower is about investing in the lives of those who are far from God, actively seeking them out and building relationships in a welcoming, accepting manner and sharing the gospel message with them.
Building Authentic Community
CenterPoint is committed to extending grace and acceptance to all who come and to offer the joy of belonging, the delight of being known and loved, and the opportunity to give and share our lives with others. We aren’t interested in being a place where a lot of people get together for an inspiring service but never move beyond the casual, arm’s distance relationships of an auditorium. People who grow in their relationship with God also grow by developing authentic friendships with each other, moving beyond the Sunday morning sanctuary into small groups and serving.
Living Generously
We believe God is generous. He gives freely, fully, graciously and without measure. He is a giver, not a taker. Generosity means living our life with our hands open, generously giving away the time, talent, treasure God has so graciously entrusted to us. Generous living is about creating margin in our lives so we can give more of our lives away in Jesus name especially to those most in need. At CenterPoint we believe we are never more mature than when we give, love or serve.
Our Statement of Faith
These statements regarding biblical doctrine represent the foundational truths of Scripture, which we believe are unchanging as well as essential for a balanced, and maturing Christian life.
We believe
the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the verbally inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, of supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. II Timothy 3:16-17
We believe
that there is one God eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1; John 10:30; John 4:24; Matthew 28:19.
We believe
in the Deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His substitutionary death and the absolute necessity of His shed blood for atonement, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His high priestly intercession for His people, and His personal, premillennial return for the church and His subsequent return to establish His kingdom on earth. John 10:33; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35; Ephesians 1:7; John 11:25; Acts 1:11; Hebrews 4:14-16; Hebrews 7:25; I Thessalonians 4:13-17; II Thessalonians 2; Matthew 24:44; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:5-6.
We believe
that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, makes believers of repentant sinners, baptizes each into the body of Christ at the time of new birth, assures them of Heaven, and by His indwelling enables Christians to live a Godly life. It is the privilege and duty of every believer to be constantly filled (controlled) with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit seals and indwells every believer unto the day of redemption, gifting each for Christian service. The gift of tongues neither was, nor is, essential to prove the presence of the Holy Spirit; nor is it an indication of deep spiritual experience. John 16:8; I Corinthians 3:16; I Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13-14; Ephesians 5:18; Romans 12; I Corinthians 12.
We believe
that Satan is a true spiritual being and that Hell is a place of eternal, conscious punishment for Satan and all unsaved. Job 1:6-7; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20.
We believe
that all men are by nature and by choice sinful and lost and that for salvation, Holy Spirit regeneration is absolutely essential. We believe that men are justified on the unique ground of faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and that confession of sin and repentance are essential ingredients of saving faith. Salvation is the free gift of God to each who truly receives Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Romans 3:19, 23; Romans 5:12; John 16:8-11; II Corinthians 3:6; I Corinthians 12:12-14; Acts 13:38-39; Ephesians 2:8-9; I Peter 1:18-19.
We believe
in the eternal security of the believer. John 10:28-29.
We believe
that a New Testament church is an organized body of baptized believers practicing Scriptural ordinances and disciplines, who are actively engaged in fulfilling the Great Commission as part of the body and espoused bride of Christ preparing for His return. Acts 2:41-42; I Corinthians 5:12-13; Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 5:25-27; II Corinthians 11:2.
We believe
that baptism is a Scriptural ordinance requiring immersion in water upon a confession of faith in the Lord Jesus, and is typically administered by a New Testament church in a timely manner. Baptism has no saving power but is an act of obedience and identification with the Lord Jesus. Acts 8:38-39; Acts 2:41; Romans 6:3-5; Ephesians 2:8-9; Matthew 28:19-20.
We believe
that the Lord’s Supper is a Scriptural ordinance of the church, a memorial to the death of Christ, to be partaken of by obedient Christians of like faith. I Corinthians 11:23-30.
We believe
in the resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and the lost to everlasting punishment. The souls of the redeemed at death are instantly present with the Lord in conscious bliss awaiting a glorified body at “the first resurrection.” The souls of the unsaved at death await in conscious estrangement the second resurrection and the great White Throne of Judgment followed by everlasting conscious punishment in Hell. Matthew 25:46; John 5:28-29; John 11:25-26; Luke 23:43; Revelation 20:4-6; II Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 3:21; I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Luke 16:19-26; Matthew 25:41-46; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 20:11-15.
We believe
that every human being is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; that each local church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; that therefore, Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other. Romans 14:10-13; Matthew 22:21; Romans 13:1-8; Acts 5:29.
We believe
that to maintain her pure character the church must refrain from any such ecclesiastical associations as may be understood to give endorsements to that which violates or compromises the Biblical doctrine or practice held by this church. Members likewise must be careful to refrain from all such practices and associations as may bring reproach upon the Name of their Savior and His Church. II Corinthians 6:14-7:1; II Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; II John 9-11.
